I normally do not like painted wood, but I like yours because it's understated and you left some of the wood bare.Kari Hultmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01224053263659415329noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1768624752163209572.post-39873621539682748082010-02-09T10:12:29.524-07:002010-02-09T10:12:29.524-07:00Thanks, Ethan and Chris. As you say, Chris, the eye is immediately drawn to it, but is that because it looks like a clown in church?Bob Tinsleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12925965417241048148noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1768624752163209572.post-25284898489221257542010-02-09T02:51:29.536-07:002010-02-09T02:51:29.536-07:00Gotta say my eye was drawn to the coloured spoon. ...Gotta say my eye was drawn to the coloured spoon. I think you did a great job with the choosing the shades. Thumbs up from me for both versions. The combinations of shapes look great.Chris.Phttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04158314374260401549noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1768624752163209572.post-26526028201256019932010-02-01T02:34:05.738-07:002010-02-01T02:34:05.738-07:00tough call on the color of the spoons. I don't really know what makes me go for paint or just leaving a carving natural. Usually it is the wood ( oak is heavy on the grain side) where paint will show off the carving better than the natural. Or I just want to play with it one last time. Oh! and you ain't kidding with maple. dry maple is killer on chisels as well. And power carving is not much fun becasue of teh fuzzy fibers. I'm never able to get a clean cut with my cutters. I have carved it green with chisels and it makes a HUGE differance. One of the nice things is that you can sand it to and really cool feeling finish ( 400 grit sandpaper makes it feel Oh so Smoooth!) gotta love the really hard woods for that glass like finish you can put on them. The Great Ethan Allenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01325538741317535595noreply@blogger.com
